5 Ways to Practice Gratitude in Your Life

Counting your blessings

Gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions that can significantly improve the quality of your life. When you are grateful, you attract abundance into your life. There are so many ways of practicing gratitude, but here are our top five ways to practice gratitude in your life. Pick the ones that resonate the most with you and go for them!

1. Keep a gratitude journal

One of the best ways to practice gratitude in your life is by keeping a gratitude journal. You can have it in the form of a diary or on your phone or laptop, whatever works for you. Every morning after you wake up or every night before you sleep, think about five things that you are grateful for. Take a moment to reflect on each of these things and why you are grateful for them before writing them down.

2. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is the ability to live in the present moment. This means blocking everything out and only focusing on the present. By doing so, you learn to be grateful for everything around you. This includes the air you’re breathing, the beautiful birds chirping, the sun shining on your face or whatever else is going on in that moment. It allows you to slow down and absorb whatever you have so that you can truly be grateful for it.

3. Tell someone how much they mean to you

This is a beautiful expression of gratitude, and you’ll be surprised at how much more grateful it can make you feel. Think of someone who means a lot to you. It could be anyone, from your family to your friends, maybe even someone who works for you. Take a moment to tell them how much they mean to you and why.

4. Give

The act of giving is one of the best ways to practice gratitude in your life. Research has shown that people who give are much happier than others. By giving to others, you automatically start to feel grateful for everything that you have. This doesn’t mean you have to give money or your belongings. Giving can be in any form –  you can give your time, energy, money, etc., according to how much you want to give. There’s no such thing as too much or too little; rather it is the act of giving itself.

5. Have a gratitude jar

This is an interesting concept where you keep a jar in your home, and every time you feel grateful for something, you make a note and put it in the jar. It can be something super small like the beautiful weather. Let the jar fill up, and from time to time you can empty it to reflect on all that you are grateful for. It'll be a good reminder every now and then.

Each of these five ways is unique and effective. They will help you practice gratitude in your life in the best ways possible. You’ll start to notice how much better your life starts to feel once you incorporate these five ways into it.
